For Our Man by Kazuo Ohno
I did not enjoy this short. In fact, I remember it being said that we were going to be given a horrible short and would have to detect it, and half way through this short I would have bet money that this was it. But after finishing it, I just feel uncertain and a little uneasy. I struggled focusing. I may have even missed pertinent details, but I have no desire to rewatch this short to see if I did. Isn’t that sad? Yes, if I did rewatch it, I would probably like it more, but I just…don’t know.
The concept of this film was awesome. I was intrigued by the idea of following a writer’s thought process in creating an appealing storyline. However, the execution was not all that and a bag of chips. The filming was often shoddy and reminded me of youtube clips. It is possible that the details of the man’s story were underdeveloped and that’s why the filming was not as crisp.
I did appreciate how all of the writer’s storylines came together in a collective narrative at the end of the movie. The part with the penny and the little boy was the first time I felt connected to any of the characters. Maybe the disconnect to the characters is my reason for not focusing?
I will probably rewatch this short again later tonight to make sure I am not missing an incredible film. I am very excited to hear everybody’s opinions tomorrow!
