“Dreams From The Woods”, a short film by Johannes Nyholm, is a beautifully directed and composed work of art. The eerie tale of love, friendship, life and death is highlighted through Nyholm’s beautiful work of animation resembling puppetry. Without the use of words, Nyholm leaves this emotional tale up to the viewer’s interpretation. The characters he introduces are so complex in nature, yet visually simple. As the bird’s best friend and or lover is grasped by the hands of death, the viewer follows the bird through his emotional estrangement due to love lost.
This haunting short film left me speechless as my mind races to fully comprehend the deep psychological undertones of the story. Its beautiful images and animation echo through my mind. Nyholm’s work is notably somber, organic, touching, and stunning.
